Article On Transgender Children!
Hanna Rosin, an excellent writer and the author of God’s Harvard and a regular contributor to Slate, The New Yorker and other Magazines, has an article in this month’s issue of The Atlantic Monthly that explores the issues in the debate on transgender children. She spends time with Brandon Sims who at the age of 8 has been allowed by his parents to grow up as a girl.

I found this a very poignant tale of ambivalence and misdirection more than black and white conclusions. You’d do well to discuss this with your teams and ponder what more we could do for the whole family caught in this difficult world!
Chris Yount Jones, the Executive Editor of Children’s Ministry Magazine, also has the magazine tackle this “hot topic” article in the November/December 2008 issue of the magazine titled “Beyond The Birds and the Bees” (http://www.childrensministry.com/magazine/) which explores even more this very emotional and deeply political issue!
Thanks for this article. I definitely will be reading this with my team.
Our entire community was confronted with the transgender issue a year ago when one of the teachers at the high school left in June as a “man” and returned as a “woman”. As Christians, this is definitely an issue that we need to be ready to face because we are only beginning to hear about it.
Where on earth do we even begin discussion on this?
How do we reconcile the medical “fact” with the Truth?
And, indeed – a black and white issue, or more – but when it spirals so early, what do we say to that?
And how if this increases among our families, or families in our communities? How do we guide them to understanding?
