    The essay reads like the rantings of an old man whose only windows on the world are the newspapers — and he actually believes what he read! (A few years ago our local newspaper declared that our quiet town of Conwy was worse than the Bronx because some kids broke a window and some other bits.)

    Yes, we have problems with parenting in the UK. Yes, many of them are very serious. But Mr Dalrymple, no matter that some of what he wrote is correct, has nothing constructive to offer. We could do without his voice.
