Study in the journal Pediatrics links toddlers obesity with Iron deficiency
2007 September 4
You can read the abstract here (http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/120/3/538) but there is an interesting conclusion to a study of infants (especially among hispanic infants) that linked obesity with low iron levels in childreh. Iron deficiency can cause mental and behavioral delays so this study is very important in providing the link. My mother used to cook in cast iron skillets so we had plenty of iron in our system. But avoiding solid foods and serving only milk or juice can contribute to the avoidance of iron.
