Backyard Bible Adventure Curriculum Here
2007 August 6
Hey all,
Here’s an early draft of the Backyard Bible Adventure Curriculum that we’re using this year. It’s a draft as we’re moving too fast to have an administrative assistant comb over it. However, it’s been field tested twice.
It’s protected with a Creative Commons Licence.
So you may download it, make copies, give it to your friends. However, you must attribute the material to “Larry Shallenberger and Grace Church.” You may not publish or sell the material.
Also– this material looks like Group materials with ”say” and “ask” format. However, this isn’t a Group work. (So don’t blame them for any shortcomings!)

We have just finished our second year of backyard VBS. We took a 10-week summer curriculum for combined ages and split it into 2 1-week programs. It worked well. The wheels are already spinning for next year and your program looks awesome! Don’t worry–I have no problem giving credit where the credit is due!! I feel extremely blessed that creative people like you are willing to share your “treasures”!
Do you mind a couple of questions? First, how has the response been in your area for the backyard program? We are still getting a little resistence here. Some really miss the grand productions we would host for a week at the church. Second, are you any relation to the South Bend, Indiana Shallenbergers? I went to college with Rick.
Again, thanks for sharing your curriculum! Some of us can’t afford the expensive published versions!
Hi Ramona,
Response has been as expected when you remove on the cities longest tenured and effective VBS’ from play. I’ve been here for 10-years, so I’ve earned some trust. I wouldn’t make this change as as newbie.
I don’t know any South Bend Shallenberger’s. I come from a large, large family and can’t name my nearly seventy first cousins.
My only caution with adapting purchased curriculums is watch the copyright issues. The reason I don’t use existing stuff is that I’d need to purchase multiple sets of the material. There is almost NEVER permission given to make copies.
