I’m sitting in a hotel in South Bend, prepping for a TV interview tomorrow. I took a break to visit the www.PhiladelphiaEagles.com. (That’s how I roll!)

Check out the planning that goes into feeding a camp full of athletes:

On Friday, rookies and selected veterans will report to Lehigh University to begin preparations for the 2007 season. But preparations have already begun at Lehigh to prepare the campus and training facility for when the team arrives.

Feeding more than 80 football players and a full staff of coaches and employees is not an easy task. Here’s a sample inventory of exactly how much food is consumed during the course of training camp.

Boost Nutritional Drink (24 8oz. cans per case)
Chocolate……………………… 30 cases

Iced tea………………………..  25 cases
Raspberry…………………….  20 cases

100 cases of Aquafina bottled water

Gatorade (24 20oz bottles per case)

300 5oz Fillets per meal

300 8oz Steaks per meal

In addition, here’s a few additional facts from the Eagles training room:

• The Eagles trainers use 70 miles of tape during the season for wrapping players’ wrists, knees and ankles.
• Players drink 6,200 gallons of Gatorade during the season.

Here are some other things to consider when you visit camp this year:

Bleacher Seating Capacity:
2005…………….. 1,300 seats
2006…………….. 1,800 seats
2007…………….. 2,200 seats

• Over 2,500 feet of fencing to surround the fields.
• There are over 35 tents used at Training Camp.
• Preparations for training camp begin in March.
• Some Eagles staff members arrive full time at camp over one week before the first practice to begin setup.
• The fields are cut and watered every day during camp.
• Over 10,000 zip ties are used to secure everything from signage to fencing.

Look at the intense planning that goes into a two-week training camp.

Think of all the planning that goes into an outreach event such as VBS or a musical. Ask yourself these questions:

–How can anticipate my needs?

–To whom can I delegate the ordering and purchasing responsibilities?

–How can I calendar the purchasing and aquiring of the supplies in a way that respects the church’s cash flow and your need to have the supplies in hand?
